Bill Vander Zalm is a successful entrepreneur who
also made a lasting reputation for himself in politics.
He started his political involvement as a councillor in Surrey, BC’s second largest city. He quickly graduated to Mayor of Surrey and was thereafter convinced to become involved provincially. He served the province as a Minister responsible for Social Services, Minister responsible for Public Transportion, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Minister of Education, and finally Premier of BC.
He retired from politics in 1991 but in 2009 came back
to head the movement to successfully fight the HST.
